Kenneth Foote Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Buxton & Bass Okeechobee Funeral Home and Crematory on Feb. 12, 2026.
Kenneth Alden Foote, 79

Kenneth "Ken" Alden Foote, father and grandfather passed away in Stuart, Florida on January 19, 2026. During his final days, and until he took his last breath, he was surrounded by those he loved and those who loved him. Ken was born in Manhattan, New York on May 12, 1946, to Arthur Longworth Foote and Theresa Bergin Foote. Theresa can be credited for the family moving to Stuart. Ken was 12 years old when he and his parents drove all over Florida looking for the perfect new home. When they arrived in Stuart, his mother said, "This is the place." The family settled there and Ken spent his life rooted in that community he loved until his retirement when he moved to southwestern Pennsylvania. He returned to Florida in 2024 to be near his family, especially his beloved grandsons.

Ken graduated from Martin County High School, Stuart, Florida, in 1964. He was a popular student and excelled in sports, eventually playing semi-pro football after high school. He went on to earn college degrees from Palm Beach Community College and Florida Atlantic University.

Ken worked as the City of Stuart Finance Director, City of Stuart Commissioner, owned Foote Realty, was a junior football coach, little league baseball & tee ball coach and an instructor who taught real estate and business at Indian River Community College. He retired from the South Florida Water Management District, Land Management Division, as the Senior Real Estate Specialist encompassing Palm Beach, Martin, Okeechobee, and Highlands County. He then moved to Pennsylvania where he settled into a rewarding life with his closest friend and partner, Elaine Smith, and his second family. His retirement years were filled with traveling-especially to Niagara Falls, Gettysburg and Florida.

Ken enjoyed watching Dry Bar Comedy, trying new restaurants, investing, attending local and professional sporting events, as well as watching sports on television. Ken liked studying history and science. As a Christian he loved studying the Bible. Two of his favorite movies were Local Hero and The Quiet Man. He loved the song "Take it Easy" by the Eagles.

Ken was preceded in death by his parents, Arthur and Theresa Foote; brothers, Arthur "Artie" Foote and William Robert "Bobby" Foote; and son-in-law, Ryan McPherson.

He loved and was proud of his children, Daniel (Christina), Timothy, Marianne McPherson, and Katherine "Katey" (Etienne) Bourgeois. His grandsons, Collin and Gavin Foote, gave him untold joy.

He was a fun, interesting, kind and generous person who made everyone feel special. He will be deeply missed by many. Friends and family are encouraged to raise a glass and offer a heartfelt toast "Cheers to Ken" over a delicious Bone-In Ribeye Dinner. Donations can be made to Treasure Coast Hospice.
