James "Wayne" Donaldson of Waynesville, North Carolina, passed away peacefully on October 25, 2025, at the age of 91.

From 1954 to 1956, Wayne honorably served in the United States Army, a chapter of his life that reflected his deep sense of duty and commitment to his country.

He worked for many years at Powell Lumber Company, where he sold building materials and earned a reputation as a talented and meticulous carpenter. Wayne's craftsmanship was generously shared with his family and friends, many of which were blessed with his beloved walking canes. Wayne loved serving the Lord and was always ready to help others through quiet acts of kindness.

Wayne's life was anchored in his faith in Jesus Christ. He lived with a quiet confidence in God's promises and looked forward to spending eternity in Heaven. His devotion was evident in the way he treated others-with grace, humility, and a servant's heart. He found joy in worship, strength in prayer, and peace in knowing that his eternal home was prepared. He was a member of Louisa Chapel.

He is survived by his loving wife of 72 years, Effie Grasty Donaldson; his brother, Dean Donaldson (Freda); his sister, Darlene Donaldson Gregg (Jerry); his brothers-in-law, Bill Grasty and Fred Grasty (June); his sister-in-law, Mary Jo Grasty; many nieces and nephews; and his special nieces, Tracie Rhea and Cindy Shook, whom he lovingly referred to as "his girls."

Wayne was preceded in death by his parents, Weaver and Minnie Donaldson, and his siblings Carroll, Harold, Weaver Donaldson, Dorothy Huckeby, Edith Mease, and Wanda Mohler.

A private memorial service was held in the chapel of Crawford/Ray Funeral Home. Rev. Matt Rhea officiated. He will be laid to rest beside his two babies at Pleasant Hill Cemetery, in accordance with his wishes.

The family extends their deepest gratitude to all of Wayne's doctors, nurses, and caregivers for their compassionate support and dedicated care throughout his journey, especially the team at Four Seasons Hospice.

Memorials may be made to Pleasant Hill Cemetery in Clyde, NC.
