James B. Doyle, Sr., 72, of Lake Charles, LA, passed away at 5:44 AM on Wednesday, December 20, 2023, in a Galveston hospital.
Born in Memphis, TN, on December 30, 1950, Mr. Doyle was raised in Bolivar, TN, where he graduated from Central High School. Following his graduation, he pursued higher education at the University of Southern Mississippi in Hattiesburg, focusing on journalism. This academic journey led him to LSU Law School, where he balanced his studies with a position as a sportswriter at The Advocate in Baton Rouge. Upon earning his degree, he seamlessly transitioned into a legal career in Baton Rouge while maintaining his passion for sports journalism. In the early 1980s, he relocated to Lake Charles, Louisiana, where he continued to practice law as a Louisiana lawyer.
A highlight of Mr. Doyle’s illustrious career was his triumph in the US Supreme Court case, Edmonson V Leesville Concrete Company, a landmark decision rendered on June 3, 1991.
Outside of his professional pursuits, Mr. Doyle was a dedicated member of the local community theater scene as well as the Ad and Press Club. An avid learner with a profound interest in history and travel, he explored various corners of the globe and nurtured a deep passion for music. Known for his warm hospitality, he frequently opened his home to friends and family.
Those left to cherish his memory are his children, James B. Doyle, Jr of Lafayette, LA, Brittany Hodges (John) of Lafayette, Callen Doyle of Moss Bluff, LA, Stratton Doyle (Taryn) of Maurice, LA, and Harrison Doyle of Lake Charles; sister-in-law, Nancy Doyle of Illinois; and nine grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Eva and Wilbur Doyle and siblings, Winston Doyle (Vivian) and Thomas Doyle.
