John C. Doyle, Sr., 75, of Dorchester County, Maryland formerly of Baltimore, Maryland passed away on Wednesday, November 9, 2023.
He was born on March 17, 1948 in Baltimore to the late Jack C. Doyle and Margaret Douglas Doyle.
On December 29, 1965 John enlisted into the U.S. Marine Corps to proudly serve his country. He was 1st Marine, 3rd Amtrak, Platoon 110 in the Vietnam War. During his assignment he earned the National Defense Service Medal, Vietnamese Service Medal w/star, Vietnamese Campaign Medal w/device, Purple Heart Medal, Presidential Unit Citation and Rifle Sharpshooter Badge. John was honorably discharged with the rank of Corporal on December 13, 1968.
He went on to serve in the Marine Corp Reserves until 1971.
On January 4, 1969 he married the former Kay Schmincke. Together they raised two children and they made their home in Baltimore.
John was employed as a supervisor at Carr Lowrey Glass until his retirement.
After retirement John and Kay decided to re-locate to the Eastern Shore. The thought of fishing, hunting and crabbing would be a great way to enjoy his retired years. He was a member of the Fishing and Hunting Marco Club. He also collected decoys and antique cars. John loved spending time with his children and grandchildren. He will be dearly missed by his family and friends.
Surviving John is his wife Kay; children John C. Doyle Jr. and his wife Ellen of Baltimore, Michele Starnes and her husband Duane of Taylor’s Island; grandchildren John C. Doyle III, Zachary Doyle Sr., Khloe Doyle, Jake Starnes and Luke Starnes; great grandson Zachary Doyle Jr.; siblings Cathy Heinlein (Chris), Dan Doyle (Bobbi) and Emily Kelly; brother-in-law Henry Schmincke and his long-time friend Tom O’Brien.
A funeral service will be held on Thursday, November 16, 2023 beginning 12:00 noon at Newcomb and Collins Funeral Home, 308 High Street, Cambridge, MD with Rev. Mike LaClair officiating. Interment will follow at the Maryland Eastern Shore Veterans Cemetery, Hurlock, MD with Military Honors at 2 pm.
Serving as pallbearers will be John Doyle Jr., John Doyle III, Zachary Doyle, Duane Starnes, Luke Starnes, Jake Starnes and Dan Doyle.
