Mr. James Butler Dozier was born August 13, 1936 the 4thchild to Bessie Thomas Dozier and Hilliard Dozier. He went home to be with the Lord May 2, 2024.James was reared in the tri-counties area of Halifax, Nash and Edgecombe counties.
He attended schools in these local counties, He attended his local church and was baptized at an early age. James did odd farm jobs initially, but he relocated to New York state. James worked in several jobs as a waiter in the food industry, he settled on a career as an environmental engineer for over fifty years. He recently relocated to Newport News in June 2020 to be near family.
James loved people and usually had a beautiful smile;people gravitated to him and sought his opinion on various issues in their lives. He made friends easily and was a very positive person. He recently accepted Christ as his personal savior again a week ago.
James is pre-deceased by his parents: Mr. Hilliard Wilson Sr.and Mrs. Bessie Thomas Dozier; four sisters Bert, Linda, Evangeline and Mabel; eight brothers: Richard, Edward, Donald Ray, Artis, William, Christopher, Hillard Wilson Jr.,and Louis; his wife Lornice Rhodie, and his daughter Marcia Dozier-Rawles.
He is survived by his nephew Gregory Pittman (his care giver), his grandchildren (Talisha Dozier and Benjamin Rawles; his grandchildren: Kahmani Wingfield and Kori Dozier, and ahost of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
It is the desire of the Dozier family that you keep them in your thoughts and prayers.
