James David Dragoo

James David Dragoo, known affectionately as David, "Pa-Paw" was born on September 6, 1964, in Temple, Texas. He passed away unexpectedly in his home in Troy on Wednesday, January 14, 2026, after bravely battling and overcoming cancer. David's life was a testament to hard work, dedication, and devotion to family, all while maintaining a joyful and vibrant spirit.

Throughout his career, David showcased his industrious nature. He began as a truck driver for Coca-Cola, transitioning into entrepreneurship by starting Dragoo Hauling for a few years. His career path eventually led him to PFG and later to the City of Temple, where he made significant contributions to the utilities department. It was here that he earned his Class I Wastewater Collection Operator license, later advancing to a Class II license until his retirement. David's work ethic and commitment were reflected in his professional accomplishments and his interactions with colleagues, who admired his kindness and caring demeanor.

David graduated from Temple High School, proudly wearing his letterman jacket as a member of the class of 1983. His high school years included active participation in the Auto Shop class, laying the groundwork for a life filled with passion for mechanics and service.

Known for his laughter and upbeat personality, David brought joy to everyone around him. His selflessness and supportive nature were evident in his dedication to family and his community. He had a unique way of lighting up a room with a smile, often sharing that smile with local children. David was also known for his stubbornness—his steadfastness in being set in his ways was only matched by the depth of his love and compassion for others. He encouraged those around him to "NOT see the glass half full or half empty but to see it as it is", ensuring that those he cared for did not worry about him. His penchant for order and cleanliness was matched only by his generous spirit, as he engaged actively in fundraisers and school functions.

Throughout his life, David enjoyed various hobbies and interests. He was an avid football fan, particularly devoted to the Texas Longhorns and the Dallas Cowboys. He coached little league baseball teams for his son growing up.  Family game nights often featured video games like Mario Kart and NCAA, creating cherished memories. David also amassed a collection of Coca-Cola products and diligently collected coffee cups during his travels, filling his wife's china hutch with these thoughtful souvenirs.

David was a devoted family man, and his proudest accomplishments stemmed from his love for his wife of 31 years, Tina Wyvonne (Herring) Dragoo, and their son, Joshua Tyler Dragoo and his wife Molly, who he supported endlessly along with his grandchildren, Carter Roscoe-Dragoo, Alessi Dragoo, and Leighton Dragoo. He leaves behind two brothers, Daniel Dragoo and his wife Elnora, Paul Dragoo and his wife Sheila, one sister, Dorothy Bland and her husband Terry, thirty-five nieces and nephews, numerous great-nieces and great-nephews, and many beloved friends.

David is preceded in death by his parents Barney Dragoo and Prebble (Rosser) Dragoo; four brothers—Barney Dragoo, Carlton "Corky" Dragoo, Era "Frank" Dragoo, and Darrell Dragoo—as well as five sisters: Elizabeth Dragoo, Maggie "Corine" Campbell, Elsie Bryant, Dixie Stewart, and Joyce Brewster.

A Celebration of Life will take place on Friday, January 23, 2026, from 4:00 PM to 5:00 PM at Young's Daughters Funeral Home & Bereavement Center, located at 4235 E. US Hwy 190, Temple, TX 76501 with Joshua Dragoo officiating.
