James R. Duffey, 72 of Palm Coast, Florida passed away peacefully on September 4, 2025 after a courageous battle with ALS. Born in Lancaster, Pennsylvania, James dedicated his life to helping others, serving as a paramedic for over 35 years. His work took him across the United States and abroad, where he brought compassion, care, and professionalism to every life he touched. James was a man of many passions. He loved riding his bike, spending time on the beach, and was often seen walking the shore with his metal detector, always on the hunt for lost treasures and quiet moments by the sea. He is survived by his loving wife, Maria A. Duffey, of the home, and his extended family who brought him joy and pride; stepson Ryan Todd and his wife Amber, and step-grandson William Todd of Georgia; stepson Austin Crowder and his wife Katie of Florida; and stepdaughter Emily Crowder, step-grandson Jace Nguyen and step-granddaughters Evelyn Constenta and Gabriella Crowder of South Carolina. James also leaves behind his sisters Debra Duffey Schaefer and her husband Robert Schaefer of Florida, and Barbara Buch of Pennsylvania. He was a proud uncle to Kyle Hable and wife Leethea, and their children Asher and Brooks of California; Leanna Waldron of California; and Kyle, April, and Andrea of Pennsylvania. He is also remembered by his former brother-in-law Steve Hable of South Carolina, and his lifelong best friend, Roger Schaeffer of Virginia. James will be remembered for his generous heart, adventurous spirit, and deep devotion to his family and friends. His legacy lives on in the many lives he touched, both through his work and the love he gave so freely. A private memorial will be held by the family. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made in James's name to an ALS foundation of your choice or EMS service. He will be dearly missed. Heritage Funeral and Cremation Service of Bunnell, Florida assisted the family with arrangements. www.HeritageFlagler.com
