James Earl Obituary

James J. Earl, 80, of Holly Pond, Alabama, passed away on Friday evening, October 17th, 2025. Mr. Earl was born on November 14, 1944, in Cullman County, Alabama, to the late Harlen James Earl and the late Ellen Louise Bates Earl.

Mr. Earl is preceded in death by his parents; son-in-law, Shawn Tipton; and grandson, Anthony Pippin.

Those left to cherish Mr. Earl’s memory include his wife, Deborah Earl; children, Richie Earl (Amy), Tim Earl (Gayla), Ski Smith, Michelle Tipton; grandchildren, Reagan Pippin, Mattie Grace Earl, Emma Earl, Cessily Earl, Lane Tipton (Taylor), Clay Tipton; great-grandchildren, Drake Pippin, Ella Pippin, Cason Earl, Casey James Earl; and many cherished friends.

Mr. Earl was a member of Redan Missionary Baptist Church. James had an outgoing personality, and he never met a stranger. He was a hard worker who stayed busy all the time. Mr. Earl loved his country, and his servant heart led him to serve six years in the Alabama National Guard where he trained regularly and was prepared to serve our nation at a moment’s notice, given he was called to do so.

James had a special bond with his dog, Blackie, but his love for his family was even greater. James adored his family, and he never missed an event that his children or grandchildren participated in. He was always there - supporting and encouraging them in their many endeavors. Mr. Earl’s love for his family was evident, and he will be remembered as a devoted and loving husband, father, and Pawpaw.

While he will be missed greatly, James’s legacy of love and devotion will be cherished for generations to come.

Friends are invited to join the Earl family on Monday evening, October 20th, 2025, for a time of visitation beginning at 6:00 p.m. and concluding at 8:00 p.m. Funeral services for Mr. Earl will be held on Tuesday, October 21, 2025, at 11:00 a.m., with Rev. Wade Maynard officiating. Both visitation and funeral services will be held in the Holly Pond Funeral Home Chapel. Mr. Earl will be laid to rest in Union Grove Cemetery following services.
