James (Jim) Douglas Edie passed away on May 18th, 2025 at Kindred Hospital Las Vegas – Sahara, in Las Vegas, Nevada, at the age of 74. Jim was born on September 28th, 1950 in Las Vegas, Nevada, to Paul Robert and Ruth Edith (Sandberg) Edie. He enjoyed growing up in a much smaller Las Vegas, and graduated from Valley High School. My Dad married my Mom Laura in 1970. He married his second wife, my Step-Mom, Kathy in 1980. He was in a relationship for a number of years with his significant other, Sandy.
My Dad enjoyed camping, boating, fishing, and Disneyland, among other things. I remember how he would create vacations that left good memories (many in each of these very areas). Later in life he enjoyed talking with, eating with, and visiting with those he loved; watching television; and reading the Bible together.
He enjoyed his professional work, first in concrete with his Dad, and then as a plumber. He particularly enjoyed drafting, and later worked more exclusively in drafting and estimating in the field of plumbing in construction. For a number of years he co-owned Western Plumbing and Fire Sprinklers. To me, his son, he appeared judicious in work on one side, but also highly relational on the other (which most likely came from working with his own Dad in his Dad's concrete business), and people seemed to think very highly of my Dad in his field. My Mom once told me that she respected how hard working my Dad was, and that he did not shy away from hard work. My Step-Mom once mentioned how other plumbers would tell her of their respect for my Dad. I think my Dad enjoyed the interesting projects, problem solving, sense of accomplishment, working together with others, and working relationships that became friendships most in his work.
My Dad committed his life to Jesus in 2016, and rededicated it in 2022. I believe in the last three months of his life that he came to again ask Jesus into his heart, and began again to recognize that it is about following Jesus from the Bible in a personal relationship with Jesus, where we invite his Spirit to come inside and live in our heart, and change us, in a genuine heart relationship with him, for the good. Although my Dad was not able to talk due to a number of strokes, he did mention three small phrases to me a few weeks before he passed, and one of them, although not as clear, appeared to be "I have accepted Jesus." It was a joy and one of the greatest gifts I have received in life to get to spend the last three months with him. I have a hope that as long as I remain in my own relationship with Jesus in my heart, and follow Jesus from the Bible out of my heart, that beyond the wonder of mercy, forgiveness, and eternal life in Jesus, that I will also get to see my Dad again.
Jim is survived by his son Aric Edie; his sister Sandra (Sandy) Acocella and brother-in-law Mike Acocella; his step-sisters (who have been sisters in every way) Pauline Rennie and Charlotte Vernon (Rennie); his step-brothers (who have been brothers in every way) Charles Rennie and Edward Rennie; and those who also grew up with him as Dad: David Lieberman (Edie), April Mierow, and Jason Mierow.
A memorial service to honor and celebrate Jim's life will be held on June 4th, 2025, at 4 PM at La Paloma Funeral Services, located at 5450 Stephanie St, Las Vegas, NV 89122. All are warmly invited to attend.
