James Evans, age 77, of Middlesboro, KY, passed away on Saturday, September 27, 2025, at the Barbourville Health and Rehabilitation Facility, Barbourville, KY. James was born on April 2, 1948, to the late Chester and Hattie Evans.
James was a strong believer in Christ and was a devoted member of the First Christian Church, Middlesboro, KY, where he served as a Deacon. James’ family was his greatest joy. He adored his wife, Barbara, to whom he was married for 53 years and cherished his daughter, Jenny, whom he referred to as his darling baby girl. James was most proud of his three grandsons, Evan, Aidan, and Logan, who he loved to spend time with and was known as “Pawpaw”. James had a great love for Kentucky Football and attending games every fall for over 40 years. James enjoyed taking his family to Myrtle Beach in the summers and spending time together.
In addition to his parents, James is preceded in death by his brother, Harold Evans, and sisters, Wilma Hensley, Shirley Welch, and Wanda Evans.
James leaves behind his loving wife, Barbara; daughter, Jennifer Blakeman (Daniel); three grandsons, Evan Blakeman, Aidan Blakeman, and Logan Blakeman; and sister, Carolyn Williams, as well as a host of nieces and nephews.
The family wishes to extend heartfelt gratitude to the staff at the Barbourville Health and Rehabilitation Facility for the excellent care they provided for James in his last two years of life as well as the compassion they showed Barbara and Jenny during their time of need. Additionally, they express appreciation to the staff at the Cawood Funeral Home for their support and assistance during this difficult time.
The family of James Evans will receive friends and loved ones on Tuesday, September 30, 2025, from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m., at The First Christian Church, Middlesboro, KY. Funeral services will immediately follow at 7:00 p.m. with Pastor Astor Simpson presiding. Music will be provided by Larry and Karen Greene Blondell, Jennifer Blakeman and Tracey Sharpe.
Family and friends will meet at 10:15 a.m. at Cawood Funeral Home, on Wednesday, October 1, 2025, to travel in procession to Green Hills Memorial Gardens Mausoleum, Middlesboro, KY, where graveside services will be held at 11:00 a.m., with full military honors provided by the Campbell County Honor Guard. Pallbearers will be Evan Blakeman, Aidan Blakeman, Logan Blakeman, Daniel Blakeman, Gary Sparks, and Richard Johnson.
