James Evink Obituary

James "Jim" Alan Evink, age 65, of Matthews, North Carolina, passed away unexpectedly on December 28, 2025, in Charlotte, North Carolina.

Jim was born on January 15, 1960, in Grand Rapids, Michigan, to the late Robert Evink and Dorothy "Dot" Evink who preceded him in the promotion to heavenly glory as well as his beloved Auntie Eleanor. He is survived by his wife Tracy (Louck) Evink, children Valerie (Gary) Bovard and Charlie (Leah) Bovard; his cherished granddaughter, Roxanne "Roxy Jo" Bovard; and his fur-grandbaby, Leo Bovard. He is also survived by his sister Robin DiBiasio, brother Thomas (Denine) Evink, sister Kathy (Rick) Wierenga, and several loving nieces and nephews.

Jim was happily married to the love of his life, Tracy, for 19 years. They met while working at Meijer Corporate, where a friendship blossomed into a beautiful marriage. Each year on their June 9th anniversary, Jim faithfully gifted Tracy the number of roses that matched their years together. Their union allowed Jim to fulfill his dream of becoming a father with Tracy's children, Valerie and Charlie, which he took up without hesitation as he loved them fully and fiercely.

During his very full life Jim was steadfastly present for those he loved, goofy with kids, and generous with big bear hugs. Jim was well traveled as he was able to visit all 50 U.S. states and several countries abroad. Jim adored his dogs, Bo and Duke, and his late companions Maggie and Molly. He was very proud of his alma mater Grand Valley State University.

Jim proudly served as a TSA agent at Charlotte Douglas International Airport, where he was also a member of the Honor Guard. Previously, he worked at Gerald R. Ford International Airport and at Meijer Corporate while living in Michigan. Jim loved his work and the people he served, earning the distinction of Model Officer nearly every year. Known for his warmth and professionalism, Jim never missed an opportunity to strike up a conversation with travelers, especially those carrying a Michigan driver's license. He passed away just months before his well-earned retirement.

Outside of work, Jim was a passionate collector. He was a diehard fan of the Michigan Wolverines, proudly sharing his loyalty with anyone who would listen. He had a lifelong fascination with space and followed NASA and SpaceX closely, never missing a rocket launch.

He leaves behind a legacy of kindness to all, dedicated loyalty for his passions, and deep love for his family.

Visitation will be held at 2:00 p.m., followed by a funeral service at 3:00 p.m. on January 17, 2026, at Heritage Funeral Home, located at 3700 Forest Lawn Drive, Matthews, North Carolina.
