James "Jimmy" Melton Fields
James "Jimmy" Melton Fields, age 69, of Wilton Manors, Florida passed away Sunday May 11, 2025. Jimmy was born June 14, 1955 in Atlanta, Georgia and lived with his parents in Lawrenceville, Georgia through high school. He attended Berry Academy. He decided early on that he wanted to pursue a career as a Flight Attendant and began with Eastern Airlines, then continued with American Airlines until his retirement in 2016. Jimmy was eventually based in Miami, Florida with American and commuted from his home in Atlanta until moving to Wilton Manors, Florida in 2000. Jimmy was always making new life-long friends and loved his travels and career. Jimmy had many adventures and experiences during his early years with the airlines and would often fondly share those memories. He loved his family in Georgia and was always so thankful of their love and support. He also loved older cars and bought and had restored a 1971 Mercedes SL painted baby blue and which he lovingly nicknamed Baby Jane. He loved to put the top down and drive it around Wilton Manors. On April 4, 2004 Jimmy met the man with whom he would spend the rest of his life, Doug. They cherished their over 21 years together and spent their time with each other when not working. They were married in San Francisco, California on their 10th anniversary in 2014. He was diagnosed with Stage IV Jawbone Cancer in early 2024. He would say "I have had a wonderful life and have no regrets." He always held a positive and optimistic outlook on life.
He was preceded in death by his mother Ruth and his father Samuel. He is survived by his beloved husband Doug of Wilton Manors, Florida, and his family in Georgia: brother Sammy (Deborah), cousins Anne (Charles), Al (Debbie), and David, nephews Brad (Gretchen) and Todd, several great-nieces and great-nephews, and many friends. There are no services planned at this time as Jimmy preferred to keep things quiet and simple. His ashes will be interred in Lawrenceville, Georgia in his family plot.
