James Ezra Fields Sr., 84, of rural Roann, Indiana, died at 5:03 pm, Saturday, August 23, 2025, surrounded by his family. He was born on January 12, 1941, in Logan, West Virginia, to James and Mamie (Mattox) Fields.

James was a graduate of Matwan High School in West Virginia, and attended Manchester College. He married Mary Sue Porter in Wabash, on July 4, 1959, and this year they celebrated 66 years of marriage. James retired from General Tire in Wabash after 23 years, and also retired from the Ingram Book Distribution Center in La Vergne, Tennessee. He was a member of the Christian Heritage Church in Wabash. James loved refinishing furniture, gardening, playing guitar, and being in the woods.

He is survived by his wife, Mary Sue Fields; and son, James E. (Charlene) Fields Jr., both of Roann, 16 grandchildren; several great grandchildren; sister, Judy Kerr of Roann, and brother, Billy (Peggy) Fields of Kendallville, Indiana. He was preceded in death by his parents, daughter, Tamara Mahan, three brothers and two sisters.

Funeral services will be 2:00 pm, Thursday, August 28, 2025, at Grandstaff-Hentgen Funeral Service, 1241 Manchester Avenue, Wabash, with Pastor Tim Prater officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Lawns Cemetery, Wabash. Friends may call 12:30-2:00 pm Thursday, at the funeral home.
