Obituary of James "Cotton" Carroll Finnan
James "Cotton" Carroll Finnan, age 88 of Jonesborough, TN, went home to be with his Lord and Savior and was reunited with his daughter, Teena, on Tuesday, April 23, 2024. James was born on December 24, 1935, in Wiggins, MS to Johnnie and Lottie Finnan. On September 1, 1962, James married his most cherished friend and love of his life, Norma Kermode, and after 62 years of marriage, she survives.
James loved his family, and he loved tinkering with electrical devices. James was a 32nd Degree Mason and he served as a District Inspector for the Masons. He was involved with Job's Daughters in which he served as the Associate Bethel Guardian. James and his wife, Norma, also started the first Lupus support group in Southern California back in the 1980's.
James was preceded in death by his parents; his daughter, Teena Finnan; one sister, Gal King; three brothers, Billy "Bubba" Finnan, John "Baby" Finnan, and Bobby "Snook" Finnan; and brother-in-law, Wyatt Broadus. Those left to cherish Jame's memory are his loving wife, Norma Finnan; daughter, Lisa Flynn and husband, Stephen; three grandchildren, David Vining, Patrick Vining and his fiance', Peter O'Keeffe, and Annalise Lombardo and husband, Tommy; three great-grandchildren, Brookelynne "Brookie" Lombardo, James "JP" Lombardo, and Eileen "Eily" Lombardo; and many loving nieces, nephews, and other family members.
The family will receive friends on Friday, May 3, 2024, from 11:00 am to 12:00 pm at Carter Trent Funeral Home in Kingsport. A funeral service will follow at 12:00 pm with Brother David Dotson officiating. A military honors graveside will follow at 2:00 pm at Mountain Home National Cemetery. Military honors will be presented by American Legion Hammond Post 3/265.
