James Morgan (Trey) Fitts III, age 61 of Murfreesboro, TN passed away April 24, 2025, at his home due to medical complications. Trey was born in Nashville, TN on June 6, 1963, to the late Dr. James M. Fitts Jr. and Ann Brown Fitts. He was a graduate of Columbia Central High School in Columbia, TN and went on to earn his B.S. in Business Administration from Tennessee Technological University in 1986. He is survived by his sister Katherine Fitts Bond, nephews Tyler and Tanner Bond of Franklin, TN, and many family members and friends who will all remember his kind, caring, and charitable spirit.
After graduating from Tennessee Tech, Trey began his career with Blue Cross Blue Shield of Tennessee where he remained committed for the next 36 years. He quickly advanced through the ranks within the sales division, securing his role as Small Group Sales Executive where he served for the last 21 years. His dedication to his work and his colleagues was unwavering and highly respected by all.
Outside of work, Trey enjoyed traveling, being on the water, playing golf, spending time with close friends and family, and perhaps most of all, spending time with his pets who always held a special place in his heart. Trey was known by everyone for his caring nature and kind heart, most notably through his work with the Saddle Up Organization in Franklin, TN who provides equestrian therapy for children/youth with special needs. His volunteer work with Saddle Up gave him the ability to share his love of horses along with helping others in need. It also provided an avenue to give back to his community and find his own personal peace though the serenity of the entire experience.
Trey spent the last few years caring for both his mother and father in their final stages of life, managing their care and personal matters in a most selfless manner that was exemplary to those blessed to witness it. He was a special person who will be deeply missed by those closest to him and by those in whose lives he made such a positive impact.
Visitation with the family will be held Friday, May 2nd from 11:00 am to 2:00 pm in the chapel of Crestview Funeral Home in Gallatin, TN. Funeral Service will immediately follow with Paul Roberts officiating. There will be a private burial service for the family at Crestview Memorial Gardens.
The family has requested that in lieu of flowers donations be made to the Saddle Up Organization where Trey volunteered. (www.saddleupnashville.org)
