James W. Fortenberry Obituary (January 14, 1941 - July 16, 2024)
James W. Fortenberry has gone to be with the Lord. James was attending Corner High School
when his father passed away in 1957. The following year he joined the Marine Corp where he
stayed until 1962. He met and married Patricia Ann Davis in 1963. They were married until her
death in 2013. He married Rachel Hood and was married until her death in 2015. He is now
married to his loving wife Kay. James lived in Graysville most of his adult life and worked in the
coal mines for 23 years. He worked for St. Joe Container Company and then worked for a short
time at Home Baking Company until he had to retire due to a heart condition.
James was an avid lover of old country music. He played guitar and performed in local establishments like Senior
Centers and Assisted Living Homes. He loved to sing gospel songs in church.
He was preceded in death by his parents, William James and Flossie Fortenberry, Sister, Marie,
Brothers, William, Edward, Jimmy, Gene, Ellis, Roy, Roger, and brother-in-law Cecil Garrett.
James is survived by his beloved wife, Alice Kay Vodosia, son James (Brenda) Davis, sister Sue
Garrett, Granddaughter Christy (Kenneth) Hamilton, Stepdaughters, Mary Parvin and Amanda
Bates, stepsons James Bullock and Roy Bullock, and a host of grandchildren, great grandchildren,
nieces, nephews, family and friends.
A graveside will be held on July 26, 2024 @ 10:00 am at Crestview Memorial Gardens.
