James Stephen Fowkes, age 73, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family, November 20, 2025.
A Celebration of Life will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday, November 24 at Goglin Funeral Home in Scotland.
He was born on August 28, 1952, to Myrna Shirley Muhmel Fowkes and James Russell Fowkes, who instilled in him the values of kindness, hard work, and compassion that shaped his life.
Jim dedicated more than 30 years to serving his community as a pharmacist. Whether offering guidance, comfort, or simply a listening ear, he approached his work with empathy and genuine care for everyone who walked through his door.
On October 2, 1982, Jim married the love of his life, Erin Colleen Klatt. Together they built a life grounded in devotion and laughter, welcoming two beloved daughters, Amber Patricia Fowkes Griffin and Whitney Rae Fowkes, who were the pride of his world. Jim cherished every moment spent supporting, encouraging, and celebrating his girls.
Jim shared a close and meaningful bond with his sister, Heidi Myrna Greene. Although twelve years apart in age, they enjoyed a strong and loving connection throughout their lives. Jim always kept a watchful eye on Heidi and held her close in his heart, a protective and devoted big brother from the very beginning.
Jim—also lovingly known as Steve by his maternal family—held a uniquely deep connection with his uncle, Royce Muhmel. Born only three weeks apart, the two grew up like brothers rather than uncle/nephew. Royce was a profoundly important part of Steve’s life, and their bond remained strong and steadfast from childhood through the very end.
He had many passions that reflected his warm and adventurous spirit. He enjoyed bowling, treasured fishing trips to Canada, and found joy in collecting marbles, each one a small piece of wonder. Jim also dearly loved visiting his in-laws, Kevin and Mary Klatt, and created countless cherished memories during their trips to Ireland—especially the lively evenings spent in the local pubs, where he felt right at home.
Jim also loved Fantasy Football and spent months preparing his team—the Mad Leprechauns—for the draft as well as thoughtfully searching for gifts for each family member based on their chosen teams. He cherished the special time spent with his entire family, their spouses, and other beloved relatives. Fantasy football draft weekends were among the highlights of his year.
At home, Jim was lovingly outnumbered by his three ladies, and he wouldn’t have had it any other way. He also held a special place in his heart for Teddy Roosevelt Fowkes, his loyal corgi, who brought him endless companionship and comfort.
Jim will be remembered for his humor, generosity, and the unwavering love he offered his family and friends. His legacy lives on in the many lives he touched and the joy he brought to the world.
