MARSHALL, NC – James Bruce Fox, 86, of Marshall, NC, passed away on June 11, 2024.
Bruce was born November 24, 1937, to his late parents, Luther Huel Fox and Katie Carter Fox.
He proudly served as a Paratrooper in the Army achieving the rank of Sergeant from 1959-1962. Afterwards, he was employed by Bell South for 33 years and retired in 1996. Mr. Fox was a member of Long Branch Baptist Church. Bruce was a man of great faith and served as a church deacon, Sunday School teacher, Bible camp participant, on mission trips, and along with his wife Martha, delivering meals to seniors. One of his greatest joys was being a member of the Madison County Camp of Gideons International. Bruce was also a devoted family man. His pride and joy were his children and grandchildren. Farming, cutting wood and "fixing" things were also some of his greatest pastimes.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Fox was preceded in death by his wife, Carolyn Adams Fox; sister, Martha Cudd; brothers, Teddy and Arnold Fox.
Left to cherish his memory are his wife, Martha Fox; daughters, Kathy Behtz (Thom), Carol Fox (Jennifer); stepson, Michael Briggs (Jennie Ann); grandchildren, Emily Ann Behtz and Erin Elizabeth Behtz; step-grandchildren, Sarah Grace Phillips (Blake), Weldon Davis Briggs, and Wesley Parker Briggs.
A funeral service will be held on Friday, June 14, 2024, at 4:00 pm at Madison Funeral Services with Steve Honeycutt and Stanley Peek officiating.
Interment will follow in the Tillery Cemetery with military honors.
The family will receive friends from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM at the funeral home on Friday prior to the service.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Gideons International Madison County Camp, PO Box 1182, Marshall, NC 28753.
