James Eugene Francois, known to friends and family as Jim, 81, of Ironwood, Michigan, passed away peacefully at his home on Thursday, October 9, 2025.

Born on July 7, 1944, in Stillwater, Minnesota, to John and Dorothy Francois, Jim lived a full and meaningful life. He cared deeply for his community and country. He dedicated much of his career to the mental health field in the Twin Cities, where his empathy and patience touched countless lives and reflected his belief in the value of every person.

Outside of his work, Jim found great joy in nature. He was an avid fisherman and photographer, and was even published in Fins and Feathers magazine.

Jim was a devoted husband, father and grandfather. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Judy (Severson) Sullivan-Francois, who passed away in 2010; his parents, John and Dorothy Francois; and his sister, Patricia Francois and brother-in-law, Brian Lange.

He is survived by his four children, Scott Sullivan, Steph (Bill) Sorenson, Scott (Kim) Dennis and Anjuli (Marc) Atos; his siblings, Eugene (Nancy) Francois, Madonna (Carl), Judy Lange and John (Cathy) Francois; and his cherished grandchildren, who brought him endless pride and joy.

Jim was incredibly stubborn in the best way. He was true to his to heart, his principles and the people he loved. He had a fiercely independent spirit that will be remembered always.

A burial service will be held at Fort Snelling National Cemetery on Friday, November 14, 2025, at 9:00 a.m. Additional information will be shared as they are finalized.
