James Alan “Jim” Fries, age 80, of Mercersburg, PA, passed away on Wednesday, November 12, 2025, at the Chambersburg Rehab Center, where he had been a resident for the last 3 years. Born December 27, 1944, in Chambersburg, PA, he was the son of the late Charles and Ethel Comerer Fries.
Mr. Fries was a 1963 graduate of James Buchanan High School. He worked at the Fries Family farm until 1990 and then for Rotz Oil Company from 1990 until his retirement in 2016, where he was a delivery driver. Jim enjoyed trapping, frog hunting, and spending time with his niece and family.
Jim is survived by his niece, Corinna Rotz (husband Sam) of Ft. Loudon, PA; a great-nephew, Joey Rotz (wife Arin) of Ft. Loudon, PA; great-niece, Cayla D. Richards of Ft. Loudon, PA; and great great-nephews, Joseph Samuel “Jase” Rotz VI, Korbyn Richard Rotz, Michael Rhyder Richards, and Pacey James Richards; and great great-niece, Reanna Jo Richards. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his siblings, Nevin Fries, Martha Fries, and Catherine Buterbaugh.
Graveside services will be held on Monday, November 17, 2025, at 2 PM in Fairview Cemetery, Mercersburg, PA, where Pastor Duane Hawbaker will officiate. Arrangements are entrusted to the Harold M.
