It is with deep sorrow and profound love that the family of Dr. James Gallo, of Pittsburgh and Chalk Hill, a devoted physician, cherished partner, and dedicated father, announce his passing Sunday, November 23, 2025, at the age of 74. Surrounded by the family he treasured, he left this world with the same grace, compassion, and strength that defined every day of his life. He is survived by his loving partner of almost 20 years, Dr. Jeanne Baugh of Chalk Hill and Pittsburgh; his adored daughters, Cara Gallo of Phoenix, Ariz. and Marina Gallo of Pittsburgh; his extended family of Greg Baugh (Julia) of Hopwood, Eric Baugh and children Samden and Pema of Seattle, Wash., Christopher Baugh (Keri) and children Desmond, Remi and Coco of Boston, Mass., Andrew Baugh (Gina) and children Mia, Eli and Max of Cranberry; his sister, Roseann Moeller of Portland, Ore.; his niece, Kristine (Rich) Campsie of Franklin Park; his nephews, RJ (Jenny) Gallo of Mt. Lebanon, Daniel Moeller (Mary Kay) of Portland, and David Moeller of Minneapolis, Minn. Doctor Gallo was preceded in death by his parents, Peter and Thomasina Gallo of Bellevue; and his brother, Joseph of Cranberry. Doctor Gallo graduated from Bellevue High School in 1969, Allegheny College in 1973, and the University of Pittsburgh Medical School in 1977. He completed a year of internship at St. Francis Hospital in Pittsburgh, after which he completed a 3-year Ophthalmology Residency Program at the Georgetown University Center for Sight, Washington, DC. Doctor Gallo practiced as an eye surgeon in Uniontown for almost 40 years, during which he performed nearly 20,000 cataract surgeries. As a physician, he cared for his patients with unwavering dedication, offering not just medical expertise but genuine kindness, humility, and hope. He believed deeply in the healing power of compassion, and his gentle presence brought comfort to countless individuals and families throughout his career. At home, he was the heart of his family, a loving partner to Jeanne, a proud father to Cara and Marina, a doting grandfather to eight great kids, and a steady source of wisdom, humor, and unconditional support. He cherished his daughters' love and was there for them always. His role as a grandparent came from his extended family with Jeanne. The grandchildren adored him, and he adored them. He loved that one of the grandchildren, as a small child, named him "Jimmy Jim" and that name stuck. His joy was greatest in the company of those he loved most. Whether sharing family meals, cheering on life's milestones, or offering quiet words of encouragement during difficult times, he embodied the true meaning of devotion. His legacy of compassion, dedication, and love will continue to live on in all who knew him. His presence will be deeply missed, yet his impact remains immeasurable.
