John James Gary, Sr., 91, of Lake Charles, LA, passed away at 11:08 AM on March 2, 2025, following a brief illness. Born on October 29, 1933, in Edna, LA, he was the son of Don Louis Gary and Adeline Landry Gary.
James spent the majority of his life in the Moss Bluff/Lake Charles area. He proudly served in the United States Army from January 24, 1952, to September 2, 1961, completing three tours in Germany. After his military service, he worked as a Service Advisor at Wilson Motor Company and Martin GMC for many years.
A beloved father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and great-great-grandfather, James cherished time with his family. He found joy in the outdoors, whether cutting firewood, collecting aluminum cans, or mowing grass.
Those left to cherish his memory are, his children, Sheila Sarvaunt, Dale Sarvaunt (Sylva), Sandra Miller, Catherine Hurst (Alton), Jeanette Gueringer (James), Johnny Gary (Kathy), and daughter in law, Candace Sarvaunt; 30 grandchildren; 70 great-grandchildren; 50 great-great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
James was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Orlean Broussard Gary; his parents; his son, Roland Sarvaunt; his daughter, Sylvia Sarvaunt; his son-in-law, Harold Miller; three brothers, Don, George, and Adam Gary; one sister, Alma Frozine Gary; two grandsons, Joshua Fuselier and Aaron LeBert; and his great-granddaughter, Miya.
Funeral services will be held at Johnson Funeral Home of Lake Charles Chapel, 4321 Lake St., on Friday, March 7, 2025, at 1:00 PM, with burial to follow in Ravey Parsley Cemetery in Evangeline, LA. Pastor Marcus Wade will officiate. Visitation will begin at 9:00 AM on Friday and continue until the service begins, with a rosary recited at 12:00 Noon.
Pallbearers will include Dwayne Miller, Cody Fuselier, Steve Newman, Matthew Champagne, Brent Sarvaunt, and Brittney Gary, with John Liptak serving as Honorary Pallbearer.
The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to the staff of Harbor Hospice and Mr. Gary's granddaughters, Heather Mayeaux and Amanda Reine, for their compassionate care during his final days.
