James Frederick Gershman, 61, of Indiana, died in a work-related accident Wednesday, September 3, 2025 in Derry Township, Westmoreland County. A son of the late Frederick and Geraldine (Lantz) Gershman, he was born March 26, 1964 in Indiana. He was the husband of Barbara (Glaser) Gershman, whom he married March 15, 2002.

Jim graduated in 1982 from Indiana Area Sr. High School. He was an underground blaster for Heidelberg Materials, where he worked for many years.

In his spare time Jim enjoyed fishing and metal detecting. He liked to tinker and build things. He loved country music and being with his family. He was a member of the Indiana MOOSE and the Blairsville Masonic Lodge.

Jim is survived by his wife Barb and their son Travis Gershman of Indiana, PA. He is also survived by his half-siblings: Paula Tome, Florida; Karen Tummins, Missouri; John Poloski, Arizona and Dory Medvetz of Indiana, PA. He will be sadly missed by his dogs, Snoopy and Copper.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his half-brother, Denny Gershman.

Visitation will be Saturday, September 6th from 1:00 to 3:00 PM and from 5:30 to 7:00 PM at the Rairigh-Bence Funeral Home & Crematory (965 Philadelphia St.) Indiana. A Masonic service will begin a 5:00 PM. Jim's funeral service will begin at 7:00 PM Saturday evening at the funeral home. His sister-in-law, Natalie Glaser, will officiate.
