Hartsville, S.C.

Funeral services for James Archie Gilbert, Sr. age 88, will be held Thursday at 1:00 at the Bible Truth Holiness Church. Rev. Hazel Mixon and Rev. Burke Hoffman will officiate. Burial will be in Magnolia Cemetery directed by Norton Funeral Home. Visitation will be Wednesday 5-7 pm at the funeral home, other times at Joel Gilbert's (son) residence, 124 Holly Drive, Hartsville, SC.

Mr. Gilbert was born in Hartsville, a son of the late Raymond M. Gilbert and Cora Simpson Gilbert Guest. He attended Mt. Calvary Baptist Church. He retired from the Nucor Steel Mill, loved to visit different churches and sing and enjoyed going to Hardee’s, Burger King and Bojangles and enjoyed riding to the Mountains. He would often sing at the Maggie Valley Opera House.

Surviving is one daughter, April Kinard, Hartsville; two sons, James A. Gilbert, Jr., Hartsville; Joel (Joni) Gilbert, Hartsville; The mother of his children and special friend, Daphine Weber; 7 grandchildren, Alicia (Bryce) Gilbert, Andrew Kinard, Justin Kinard, Jordan Kinard, Morgan (Paul) Beasley, Matthew (Summer) Gilbert and McKinley (Madison) Gilbert; 4 great grandchildren, Brantley Gilbert, Sadie Gilbert, Jaxson Blackmon and Matthias Beasley.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Carmen Alicia Gilbert; sister, Annie Bradshaw and a son in law, Jay Kinard.
