It is with sadness that the family of Charles David Gilbert, Sr. announces his passing on September 23 while at Carolina Pines RMC.
Graveside services will be held Thursday at 3:00 at the Westview Cemetery directed by Norton Funeral Home. Visitation will be following the service at the cemetery. Rev. Gary Anderson and Rev. Lin Kirkman will officiate.
Charlie was born in Hartsville a son of the late Bob Gilbert and Ruth Woodham Gilbert. Charlie retired from Sonoco Products Company after 38 years of service and was a member of the Old Timers Club. He was a member of the Kelleytown Baptist Church and the Hartsville Masonic Lodge. He served in the National Guard for many years, was a license Pilot and was an avid sportsman and loved boating. He loved the Beach and he and Glenda loved Beach Music and Shagging and he was an avid coin collector. He loved to read and loved History.
Surviving are three Nieces, Angela (Bill) Stokes, Hartsville, Marvene Rowland, Summerville and Nicole Dittis, Council Bluffs, Iowa; Sister- in- Law, Joyce (Jimmy) Ousley, Hartsville; Special friend who he called Sweetie, Carol Elmore Bryant, Hartsville, and Special friend Birdie Cherry, Hartsville; Great Nieces and Nephews, Maggie (Darrell) Woods, Ruth (Wesley) Pope, Jamie (Jay) Sparks, Robert (Trey) Stokes, William Stokes, Christian Baker and Quin Baker; Numerous Great Great Neices and Nephews and one Great Great Great Nephew.
In addition to his parents Charlie was preceded in death by his wife, Glenda Anderson Gilbert; two sons, Chad Gilbert and Woody Gilbert; nephews Marvin D. Hooker, Jr. and James Harvey (Hart) Hooker; Sister, Bobbie Jean Gilbert Hooker; Brother- in- law, Marvin D. (Doc) Hooker, Sr.
