James Robert Gildea was born on May 10, 1934, in Salesville, Ohio. He passed away on November 23, 2025, in Columbus, Ohio.
James had a long and dedicated career, working for 44 years at Nationwide Insurance. He proudly attended The Ohio State University. James was also involved in his community as a member of the Kiwanis Club of Northwest Columbus.
James was a lifelong devout Catholic. He loved to volunteer at his church, St. Margaret of Cortona, and was a big fan of watching The Ohio State Buckeyes play football.
James is survived by his wife, Sally Gildea; his sons, Brian (Paige) Gildea and Brad Gildea; his granddaughters, Olivia (Jacob) and Adriana; and his sisters, Ernestine Soller and Ann Woods.
He was preceded in death by his father, Ernest A. Gildea; his mother, Rose L. (Klingenberg) Gildea; and his siblings, John GildeaJoseph Gildea and Rosemary Sebek.
James Robert Gildea will be remembered for his commitment to family, community, and his love for life.
Visitation will be held from 6-8pm, Thursday, December 4, 2025 at Newcomer Funeral Home, NW Chapel, 10051 Brewster Lane, Powell, OH 43065.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 1pm, Friday, December 5, 2025 at the Chapel at Resurrection Cemetery, Lewis Center, OH 43035.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be directed to St. Margaret of Cortona.
