James Govro Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Britton-Bennett Funeral Home on Feb. 7, 2023.
James "Jim" William Govro of Steelville, MO passed away Sunday, February 5, 2023 at Steelville Senior Living at the age of 88 years, 11 months and 23 days. He was born February 13, 1934 in St. Louis to James Leo Govro and Helen Ford Govro. Jim was united in marriage to Joan Lammert in 1985.
Jim served our country honorably in the U.S. Army. He was employed as a warehouse supplier for Western Electric/ATT in St. Louis until retirement.
Jim was a Christian and attended various churches in the area. He had been a member of Kiwanis in earlier years and the Steelville Country Club and was a big supporter of Golden Echoes. He helped his wife Joni in her gift and craft shops along with the flea market they had years ago. Jim loved being a part of the Christmas season and would be Santa Claus for the community. He enjoyed through the years going to the river and feeding the ducks at Hoppe Park. Most of all, he was a giver and cared about helping people when they were in need.
He was preceded in death by his parents, James Leo and Helen Govro; his sister, Mary Ellen Seiner; and his wife Joan Govro.
Visitation was from 11:00 a.m. until service time on Friday, February 10, 2023 at the Britton-Bennett Funeral Home in Steelville, MO.
Funeral services were held at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, February 10, 2023 with Rev. Bob Coleman officiating. Special music of "In the Garden", "I Know Who Holds my Hand" and "Go Rest High" was sung by Darla Vance.
Committal prayer and interment were in the Steelville Cemetery with Full Military Honors by the U.S. Army, St. James VFW Post 5608 and Patriot Guard.
Honored to be casket bearers were Ken Halbert, Roger Barr, Johnny Ransom, Emery Harmon, Rick Graham and Ricky Martin.
Memorials in Jim's name may be given to the Golden Echoes.
