James Govro Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by McMurrough Funeral Chapel - Libertyville on Jan. 21, 2026.
James E. Govro, 65, of Byron, IL, passed away peacefully on January 17, 2026, surrounded by the family he loved so dearly. Born in St. Louis, Missouri, to Harold and Marylin Govro, James grew up with a sense of duty that led him to join the Army immediately following high school.

Following eight years of honorable service as an STA Tech Controller, James leveraged his expertise into a distinguished 30-year career with the IBEW. As a Foreman specializing in security systems, he oversaw major projects throughout the Chicagoland and Rockford areas.". While James was known for his tireless work ethic, he truly mastered the art of "unwinding." Known as the life of every party, he was at his happiest when surrounded by friends-especially during cherished boating trips and outdoor adventures. James leaves behind a legacy of hard work, laughter, and an immense amount of love. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him.

James is survived by his children Laura May (Michael) Smal and Sherri Govro; his grandchildren Lillian, Alethia and Aviana; his siblings Sharon, Karen, David, Douglas and Dennis. He is preceded in death by his parents and his brother Rick.

Visitation will be held from 11:00 AM on 12:30 PM at McMurrough Funeral Chapel, 101 Park Pl, Libertyville where there will be prayer service at 12:30 PM. Interment with military honors to follow at Ft. Sheridan National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials made to Brain Injury Association of America https://biausa.org/ would be greatly appreciated.
