James Graves Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Patterson Memorial Funeral Home, Inc. on Dec. 9, 2023.
James Curtis Graves was born to Betty Morris Graves and William Curtis Graves on October 2,1965 in Martin, TN. Curtis was baptized into Christ at Palace Street Church of Christ at the age of 9.
He attended Westview High School and moved to Akron, Ohio prior to joining the United States Army. There he served as a non-commissioned officer, a cook, a field medic, and a nurse. He aspired to be a career soldier, but physical injury prematurely ended his army career. He continued his medical career as a nurse at the Veteran's Hospital. He remained a patriot his entire life. He married Sudie Graves on September 9,1996. Curtis had an altruistic heart. He loved God and his family, and he never met a stranger. He loved to fish, to travel and to read. He could discuss the Bible for hours. James leaves to mourn his mother Betty Morris Graves Shields, his sisters: Janice Dean, Erica Graves, and Veronica Johnson, his brothers: Robert (Shauna) Graves and William (Carmen) Graves. He is also leaving to grieve another sister and brother Deloris Edwards and Steve Edwards, 21 nieces and nephews, 18 great nieces and nephews, a host of cousins, aunts, uncles, friends, and army buddies. He was preceded in death by his sister Betty Ann Graves and his father, William "Sonny" Graves James Curtis Graves will be missed, but God has prepared a place for him.
"To everything, there is a season, a time for every purpose under heaven: a time to be born, and a time to die; a time to plant, and a time to pluck what is planted; a time to kill, and a time to heal; a time to break down, and a time to build up; a time to weep, and a time to laugh; a time to mourn, and a time to dance; a time to cast away stones, and a time to gather stones; a time to embrace, and a time to refrain from embracing; a time to gain, and a time to lose; a time to keep, and a time to throw away; a time to tear, and a time to sew; a time to keep silence, and; a time to love, and a time to hate; a time of war, and a time of peace." (Ecclesiastes 3:1-8)
