James Green Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Brown Funeral Home & Cremation Services - Niles on Mar. 17, 2026.
James E. Green, a cherished husband, father, grandfather, and friend, passed away peacefully from natural causes on March 15, 2026, in Niles, Michigan, at the age of 85. Born on June 28, 1940, in Greenwood, South Carolina, to the late Cecil Green and Christine (Goodin) Elrod, James's life was marked by his kindness, love, and friendly nature that touched everyone he met.

James made his journey north where he found both love and a community that would cherish him. On January 24, 1981, in Niles, Michigan, he married the love of his life, Geneva Ruth Price, who survives him. Their union brought him much happiness and a beloved step-son, Phillip Bailey. James's legacy continues through his five grandchildren, Jessica Jackson, Naomie Dejonge, Marc Bailey, Amanda (JC) Wright and Christina Green (Brother Turner) who will carry on his memory, alongside a host of great-grandchildren who will grow up hearing tales of their great-grandfather's kindness and warmth.

A man of many talents and interests, James was a former member of the Niles Moose Lodge. He spent many years on the road as a truck driver for Grindle Trucking, where he was known for his reliability and friendly demeanor. James's love for Bluegrass music was profound, and he was a gifted musician who could bring strings to life on his guitar and mandolin. His passion for music was a common thread in his life, creating connections and fostering joy wherever he went.

James was also a man who took to the skies with the same ease as he plucked strings or steered a truck. A private pilot, he found great joy in flying planes, a hobby that allowed him to soar above the clouds and experience a sense of freedom that only the sky can offer. He generously volunteered at the airport, sharing his love for aviation with others and contributing to the community that was so dear to him.

Family was the cornerstone of James's life. His grandchildren were the apple of his eye, and he dedicated much of his time and love to them. He set an example of kindness, teaching them the value of compassion and the joy of laughter. His presence at family gatherings will be deeply missed, but the memories created will be a comforting legacy for all who knew him.

Before his passing, James was preceded in death by his son, James A. Green, and his siblings, Joann Todd and John M. Green. The loss of these loved ones was a profound sorrow for James, yet he continued to approach life with his innate optimism and warmth.

Funeral services for James will be held at Brown Funeral Home & Cremation Services on Wednesday, March 25, 2026 at 1:00p.m. with a time of visitation beginning at Noon. He will be laid to rest at Mission Hills Memorial Gardens in Niles.

He will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and all who were fortunate enough to know him. His kind heart, loving spirit, and friendly smile have left a lasting imprint on this world. James's story is one of love, music, adventure, and the enduring strength of family ties.
