James (Jim) Vernon Grevelle went to be with the Lord on May 10, 2024 but he had a really great run until the past few months when too many of his body parts began to fail. Jim was born September 2, 1938 to James Ennis and Jimmie (Lee) Grevelle in
Waco, Texas. He graduated from Waco High School in 1957 and then went to the University of Texas where he earned two degrees and became an attorney. His first job was with Baker Botts in Houston which translates into the fact that he was an extremely smart man.
He served in the Texas Army National Guard from December 1963 until December 1969. The Army decided that they needed his expertise at
Fort Polk, Louisiana in their JAG office and he worked there for five and a half months before moving to California and serving out the rest of his time in the Reserves.
Jim married Garnett Brown September 15, 1971 in California and then accepted an offer as a named partner in a Dallas law firm. They had two daughters, Garnett Anne and Caroline Elizabeth. Jim and Garnett divorced in April 1995 and then he met Evelyn at a ballroom dance studio in August. They were attracted to each other immediately and learned that they enjoyed a lot of the same things; i.e., quiet, peace, travel, dancing, people, supporting each other and a love for each other that continued to deepen over time.
Evelyn Lindsey Lowery and Jim were married April 20, 1996 in Dallas and had their reception at the dance studio where they had met. Then their journey began. They traveled to England, France, Czech Republic, Switzerland, Germany and took many cruises in the Caribbean as well as the Mediterranean, Panama Canal and on the QE2 on the St. Lawrence River from Montreal to New York City. They also traveled by bus with a group from College Station to Washington D.C., Atlanta, GA and Canada.
With his second marriage, Jim inherited two more daughters, Kelli Lane (Mike) and Christianne (John). He gave his love to them and helped with legal issues when needed. He loved having a larger family because he was an only child. His new family included Kelli's son Dustin (Kristen) and their daughter Lucy plus her daughter Kennedy Lowery. In addition, Christianne's son Kendall and his daughter Erin plus her daughter Megan and her children Ryan, Presley and Jackson.
When it was time to retire, Jim and Evelyn decided to move to Brenham and they lived there for six years. Then they found April Sound in Montgomery and decided to move there. Jim enjoyed the activities of the community until his health prevented him from participating. By then two Havanese puppies (Holly & Heidi) had joined the family and he really loved them. His biggest regret was having to leave Evelyn and their two baby girls but he had already decided who he wanted to see in Heaven and that was Evelyn's mother, Martha Jane. He was also looking forward to seeing his Dad because his father died when Jim was only four years old. We will miss him so much!
We will have a celebration of Jim's life on June 8, 2024 from 2 to 4 PM at our home, because that is where Jim was the happiest. In lieu of flowers, please make donations in Jim's memory to the Montgomery County Food Bank, 1 Food For Life Way,
Conroe, TX 77385.
