Deacon James Edward Guyton, surrounded by family began his eternal journey home on Tuesday, May 6, 2025. A devoted husband, father, and grandfather, he traveled extensively throughout the world and dedicated 22 years of service to the United States Air Force, proudly serving in the Civil Engineering Branch before retiring in November 1980. He was a true American patriot and a pillar of strength to his family and community.
James was born on December 10, 1936, to Fannie Bell Booker and Joe Guyton in Shannon, Mississippi. James accepted Christ at an early age, he became a member and Deacon at St. John Missionary Baptist Church where he taught Sunday School and served faithfully for over 40 years.
In May 1956, James graduated from Hayti Central High School, joining the United States Air Force in December 1957. After retirement James enrolled and completed 2 years at Florida State University and was an avid fan of the 'FSU Seminoles'. He was a Construction and Skilled Trades Instructor at Tom P. Haney Technical College, Panama City, Florida. James was a master craftsman, electrician and contractor.
On June 16, 1957, he was joined in Holy Matrimony to Dollie Evans; to this union three sons were born.
James is predeceased by his parents Joe Guyton and Fannie Bell Booker, brothers Joe Jr., Earnest, Louis, and Charles Guyton; sisters Ollie Wright, Lester Williams, Beatrice Jones, Mamie Reeves, Pearline Granham and Joann Guyton; grandson Reginald Guyton, Jr., and great-granddaughter TaNia Baker.
Memories of his life and love will be cherished by his loving wife of 67 years Dollie; sons Anthony Guyton, Sr., Michael (Bertha) Guyton, Sr. and Reginald Guyton, Sr., sisters Juanita Guyton and Patricia Smith, brother Arthur Guyton; sister-in-law Sallie Guyton, sixteen grandchildren, sixteen great-grandchildren and five great-great grandchildren, bonus daughter Emma Chinn and a host of nephews, nieces, cousins and friends.
