James Dyer Obituary

James H. "Jim" Dyer, Jr.
CALHOUN FALLS, SC - Dr. James Dyer, 76, passed away on March 18, 2023, in Calhoun Falls, SC at Harmony House following a long illness. James Dyer, Jr. was born on March 23, 1946, to the late James H. Dyer and Dorothy J. Dyer. Jim grew up in North Augusta and graduated from North Augusta High School in 1963 where he played fullback in football as #25. He later earned his Doctorate in English from University of South Carolina in 1992.
He then started his dream career as an English Professor teaching English to many lucky students for years to come. In 2016, he accomplished his long time dream of publishing a book of poems and also aphorisms titled "The Snow Wolf." Jim was best known for his love of animals, literature, philosophy, athletics, and his Christian faith. He also loved being a professor and teaching his student new perspectives on ways to interpret English and the world. James was such a kind and gentle man and will be greatly missed.
James is survived by his niece, Jessica Holder and her three children Kelila, Thalia, and Easton. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Martha Holder. There will be a private ceremony.
