It is with great sadness that I share the passing of my best friend, my husband, James Robert Harkins, who left us on November 11, 2024, at the age of 65, after a short but intense battle with cancer.
He will be forever remembered by his loving wife of 39 years Deborah Harkins, his only son Jeffrey Harkins, his two grandchildren Ryan Harkins and Hannah Harkins, who put a smile on his face right up to the end, his caring mother Janice Harkins Hess, his only brother Robert Harkins (Jane Stowell), along with nieces, nephews, close extended family and many friends.
Jim grew up in Vermont and then went to college in Bangor, Maine where we met. Together we settled and raised our son in Milton, Vermont. In our most recent years, we spent time "snowbirding" between Vermont and Florida, a lifestyle Jim liked very much. In addition to spending time with family and friends, Jim enjoyed outdoor activities and was particularly fond of fishing, camping, and spending time at the ocean. One of his great joys was spending time with his grandchildren.
A graveside service will be held in the Spring at East Cemetery in Williston, Vermont.
In lieu of flowers, for those moved to honor Jim's legacy, donations can be made to McClure Miller Respite House online at UVMHomeHealth.org or by mailing to McClure Miller Respite House, UVM Health Network - Home Health & Hospice, 1110 Prim Road, Colchester, VT 05446.
