James (Jim) T. Harman, beloved husband, father, grandfather, business executive, pioneer, mentor and friend, passed away peacefully on April 17, 2025 at Pennsylvania Hospital in Philadelphia, PA, after a short battle with
cancer – he was 85. Jim was born on January 9, 1940 in Erie, PA to his parents, Theodore and Mary Harman of Wesleyville, PA. Jim attended Thiel College, where he met his wife of 61 years, Shirin Naughton Harman. Early in Jim's career, he managed a chain of lumberyards spanning from northeast Ohio to Buffalo, NY. Jim moved his family to the Jersey Shore in 1972 and eventually settled in Brielle, NJ for 27 years. Jim was well known and
respected nationally in the Lumber & Millwork Industries -- most notably as the Co-Founder of Bridgewater Wholesalers, Inc. (BWI) and Co-Founder and Owner of Millennium Millwork Corporation (MMC) with his son Jay. Through his work, he mentored and influenced many with his encouraging and kind leadership. Jim was well liked for his affable personality and his quick-witted humor. His strong presence and positive outlook will be missed by his friends and family – he was truly one of a kind. Jim loved home improvement and
restoration projects and passed on many of his carpentry skills to his children and grandchildren. He led an active life after retirement, and he was always looking ahead to his next project. He is predeceased by his parents and the love of his life, Shirin.
Surviving are his children, James (Jay) Harman of Asbury Park, NJ, Andrew Harman of Wall, NJ, and Katherine Forester and son-in-law, Matthew Forester of Wayne, PA, and six grandchildren, Emily Harman of Tequesta, FL, Abigail Harman of West Palm Beach, FL, Shannon
Harman of Brooklyn, NY, Caroline "Gracie" Harman of New York City, NY, Matthew J. Forester and Andrew P. Forester of Wayne, PA, and several nephews. Jim leaves an enormous void in our family and as well as those who knew him as a friend. His inspirational advice and guidance are still with us and he lives on in our memories.
Services will be held on May 14, 2025, 11:00 AM at Holy Trinity Lutheran Church in Manasquan, NJ, followed by a Celebration of Life at 1:00 PM to 4:00 PM at Orender Family Home for Funerals in Wall, NJ. In lieu of flowers, Jim would appreciate donations to an animal shelter of your choice.
