James William "Bill" Harris, age 92, passed away Tuesday, December 16th, 2025. He was born April 3rd, 1933, in Muncie, Indiana, to James Edmund Harris and Amy Lucile Morris Harris. He was the oldest of four siblings - Thomas Edmund, Marilyn Kay, and John Morris.
Bill and his first wife, Nina Lee Loughmiller Harris were the parents of Lisa M. Harris Mock (Mark), Cynthia Lee Harris Saferight (James), and Lynn Anne Harris Pike (Mark). He was preceded in death by his parents, his first wife, grandson James Eric Saferight, and his sister Marilyn Kay Harris Beyer.
Bill is survived by his second wife, Wanda Faye Towner Harris, his daughters, Lisa, Cindy, and Lynn, step-daughters Cindy Coram and Stacy Zloty (Bob), brothers Tom (Sharon) and John (Joan Hostetler), brother-in-laws Delbert Beyer and Joseph Loughmiller (Karen), and sister-in-laws Linda Loughmiller Favors and Bonnie Loughmiller Lamb.
He was blessed with grandchildren including James Eric Saferight, Jennifer Laura Saferight, Dylan Thomas Lee Pike (Emily Harris), Olivia Anne Pike, Meredith Kay Harris Mock Figueredo (Juan), Seth Harris Pike, and Jaron Edmund Pike. Step-grandchildren include Shelby F. Navarrette, Brianna M. Houghland, Caitlin N. Summerville (Spencer), Lynn E. Adams (Kyle), Alaina C. Thomen (Austin), and John R. Zloty (Christina Manning). Great-grandchildren include Harper M. and Jaxon J. Sword, and Boone Harris and Sage Pike. Step-great-grandchildren include Shaylee F. Navarrette, Edward Ryan Navarrette, Charlotte M. Harris, Maddox C. Manning, Maelynn E. Manning, Liam R. Adams, Elsie R. Houghland, Averick R. Summerville, Theodore T. Harris, John E. Thomen, Ruby G. Adams, Garret L. Thomen, Maclain R. Zloty, and Dane P. Adams.
Bill graduated from Eaton High School, Eaton, Indiana with the class of 1951. He was an active member of the EHS Alumni Association, He graduated from Ball State Teachers College in 1955 with degrees in English and General Sciences. Bill participated in ROTC while at Ball State and upon graduation in June of 1955, he entered active Air Force duty as a commissioned lieutenant. After his service, Bill became an air traffic controller for the Federal Aviation Administration at Indianapolis International Airport, retiring in 1990.
Family and friends may show their love and support from 4 to 7 pm on Monday, December 22nd and from 11 am to 12 pm on Tuesday, December 23rd at Jones Family Funeral and Cremation Service in Mooresville. A celebration of life service will be held at 12 pm following visitation on Tuesday, December 23rd at the funeral home. Bill will be laid to rest at Brooklyn Cemetery in Brooklyn, Indiana.
