Jesse Stanley Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Carlisle-Branson Funeral Service & Crematory on Mar. 11, 2026.
Jesse E. "Ed" Stanley
80, of Indianapolis, left this world on March 7, 2026. Ed was born on May 23, 1945 in Jellico, Tennessee to the late Toy Arthur and Opal Cleo (Hatfield) Stanley.

He attended Mooresville High School. Ed was a veteran of the United State Navy, serving as a radarman on many aircraft carriers including the USS Kearsarge, during the Vietnam War. He worked as a technician at AT&T for 35 years, retiring in 2003.

A lifelong learner, he enjoyed discovering new words, reading, genealogy, and never missed dissecting every obituary in the newspaper. Ed found peace in the solitary pursuits of gardening, especially tomatoes, and enjoyed walking.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by brothers Hubert James Stanley and Billie Ray Stanley.

He is survived by his children Brian (Chasity) Stanley, Kevin (Andrea) Stanley, Kimberly (Scott) Brooks, Cara (Billy) Munger, Steven (Joni) Stanley, Aaron (Abigail) Stanley, Jonathan (Sarah) Stanley, Cori Stanley; siblings Jerry (Shirley) Stanley, Alvin (Cheryl) Stanley, Susie Stanley (Don Rector); 18 grandchildren, and 23 great grandchildren.

Family and friends will gather in celebration of Ed's life on Monday, March 16th from 10am-12pm at Carlisle Branson Funeral Service & Crematory. Graveside services with military honors will be held on Monday, March 16th at 12:30pm in Mooresville Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Ed's memory to the United States Navy Memorial, 701 Pennsylvania Ave NW, Washington, DC 20004, https://www.navymemorial.org/, or to the Indy Neighborhood Cats, 6929 E. 10th Street, Box 143, Indianapolis, IN 46219, https://www.indyneighborhoodcats.org/.
