Luther Baker Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Carlisle-Branson Funeral Service & Crematory on Mar. 2, 2026.
Luther Baker
91, of Mooresville, passed away on March 1, 2026, at Plainfield Health Care. Luther was born on June 25, 1934 in Buckhorn, Kentucky to the late Rodney and Molly (McIntosh) Baker.

Luther proudly served in the U.S. Army as a marksman with the tank and rifle battalions. Upon returning home, he worked for Allison Transmission, for 39 years, most recently as a machine repair supervisor, retiring in 1991. He married the love of his life Joyce Davis on June 7, 1959, and was married for over 66 years. Luther loved working with his hands and was a talented handyman, able to fix and build most anything. He enjoyed going to Menards everyday as well as flipping cars and homes. Additionally, he enjoyed watching Westerns and was an excellent golfer. He will be remembered for his laid-back personality, who was always willing to help anyone, especially if it involved fixing or building something.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by 6 brothers and 3 sisters.

He is survived by his wife of over 66 years, Joyce Baker; sons Kevin (Valerie) Baker, Dwight (Kimberly) Baker; grandchildren Alex (Alana) Baker, Tristan Baker, Trevor Baker; great grandson Colton Rhodes.

Family and friends will gather in celebration of Luther's life on Friday, March 6th from 10am-12pm at Carlisle Branson Funeral Service & Crematory, with funeral services beginning at 12noon, Friday in the funeral home. Graveside services will take place on Saturday, March 7th at 11:00am in Vernon Cemetery, Vernon, Indiana.
