Billy Brown Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Carlisle-Branson Funeral Service & Crematory on Mar. 3, 2026.
Billy Sue Brown passed away peacefully at home on February 26, surrounded by loved ones. She was 85 years old.

Born and raised in Daisy, Kentucky, Billy carried the spirit of her Kentucky home with her throughout her life. After graduating high school, she moved to Indianapolis. A few years later she married and spent the next 62 years with Roen Brown, the luckiest man ever.

Billy's life was a constant expression of love, generosity, and quiet devotion. She was known for her kindness, gentleness, and unwavering compassion. She loved reading, cooking, family vacations, and caring for those around her. She always gave more than was asked, and one of her greatest joys was being a grandmother.

Sentimental and deeply nostalgic, Billy treasured memories of her Kentucky childhood and the many camping and fishing adventures she enjoyed with her family. Though soft spoken, she was determined and steadfast-possessing a quiet strength rooted in patience, perseverance, and a clear sense of what truly mattered. She protected what she loved, believed in the people around her, and inspired them to believe in themselves.

Billy held a deep reverence for nature. She found wonder in mountains, trees, rocks, flowers-every detail of the world around her. With her camera in hand, she captured the beauty she encountered so she could revisit those moments and share them with others.

Billy was preceded in death by her mother, Verna (Dove) Caudill, son in law, Kelly Stephenson, and by several aunts and uncles who played important roles in her upbringing.

She is survived by her husband, Roen Brown; her children, Roen Allen Brown (Marsha) and Kimmie Stephenson; and her beloved granddaughters, Lacey Hawley (Chase) and Josey Brown (Mike Holder).

Family and friends are invited to visit on Friday, March 6th from 12:00 noon to 2:00 pm at the Mooresville Free Methodist Church, 20 Star Lane, Mooresville. Billy's Life Celebration Service will follow beginning at 2:00 pm at the church. She will be laid to rest in White Lick Cemetery following the service and then friends and family are invited to return to the church for a meal and fellowship after the service at the grave.
