On December 15, 2023, we lost James Brett Hartness of Gahanna, Ohio, to the afterlife. Brett, as he was always called, was born on December 16, 1959 in Highland Park, Michigan to the late James and Kathy Hartness. Brett was known to many for his quick-witted sense of humor and passionate viewpoints on any if not all topics. He will be most remembered for his endless love for his wife, Jennifer to whom he was married 28 years and their love together of their son, Samuel.
Brett is preceded into the afterlife by his parents; brother, Scott; mother-in-law, Shirley Sharp; and father-in-law, Boone Sharp. He is survived by his loving wife, Jenny; son, Sam; brother, Andrew; sisters, Kim, Karen and Kristen; brother-in-law, Bob; nieces, Angela, Jill, Abbey, Olivia; nephews, Aaron and Drew; brother-in-law, Jason; sister-in-law, Cammy; niece, Cara and her husband, Zach; great niece, Cora; nephew, Nathan and his wife, Sarah; and great niece, Grace.
Brett was blessed to have an extended family, the Fellers, Jerry and Connie, Anthony and Leslie, Cassidy, Maddie and Leo, Guido and Tiffany, Dakota, and close friends Amanda Wilson, Diana Nothacker and her children, Dustin and Hayden, Julie Gordish and her children, Chad, Dilynn and Noelle; as well as his friends made during his childhood years in Warren, Michigan, and those throughout his working career, who will never forget their good fortune to have shared time, conversation and love with him. Brett will be deeply missed.
In lieu of flowers donations can be made directly to the family. No service to be held at this time. Day Funeral Service is honored to serve the family of James Brett Hartness.
