Randolph-
James H. Harvey, 76, of Randolph, passed away on Sunday, January 4, 2026, at home, surrounded by loved ones after a long battle with cancer.
Jim was born January 12, 1949, in Jamestown, New York, the son of the late Harley John and Katherine (Ahlgren) Harvey.
Mr. Harvey attended Randolph Central School and was a veteran of the United States Army from 1971 – 1973, having served in Korea. He worked for 30+ years at Jamestown Metal/Blackstone, where he was a brake operator, retiring in 2014.
He was a member of the Randolph American Legion Post 181. He loved to be outside, enjoying nature, he was a skilled craftsman who loved fishing, hunting, gardening, splitting/cutting firewood, and he enjoyed reading and watching The Weather Channel.
Jim is survived by his loving wife of 38 years, Betsy M. Stickney Wright Harvey of Randolph; a sister, Linda Loomis of Kennedy; seven children, Eugene (John Haderer) Harvey of Lackawanna, Gary (Kerri) Harvey of Randolph, Brendon (Elizabeth) Harvey of Otto, Kelly (Kevin Post) Wright of Kennedy, Ken (Carli) Wright of Randolph, Ben (Lori) Wright of Collins, Shelly (Matthew) Goodman of Cattaraugus; and 17 grandchildren, Bryce, Mara and Jaxon Harvey, Calysta (Brodie) and Carter Harvey, Elizabeth, Paul and Bradley Armstrong, Adeline and Owen Wright, Courtney (Jeff) Pendino, Kimberly (Rogan) Mrowczynski, Tyler (Hannah) Wright and Skyler (Amanda) Wright, Brynn and Bransen Gabel, and Lilly Goodman; and 10 great grandchildren, as well as many nieces and nephews.
Along with his parents, Jim is reunited in death with his first wife, Marilyn (Gregory) Harvey who passed away in 1985, and his brothers, Tom Harvey and Ken Harvey, and a brother-in-law, Howard Loomis.
The family will receive relatives and friends on Monday, January 12, 2026, which would have been Jim's 77th birthday, from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM (noon) in the VanRensselaer & Son Funeral Home, 14 Church Street, Randolph. Funeral service to follow at 12:00 PM (noon). The Rev. W. Mike Trenchard will officiate. Burial will be in the Sample Hill Cemetery, Town of Randolph. A luncheon will follow at the Randolph American Legion.
