James Haskins, age 78, passed peacefully into the arms of God on March 3, 2024. He was born in Lawrence Park, PA on April 21, 1945, the son of Howard and Viola Mae Haskins.  Jim will be remembered as a loving husband, father, grandfather, and friend.

Growing up in Lawrence Park, Jim graduated from Lawrence Park High School in 1963, where he excelled in basketball. He also attended Gannon College. Jim retired as captain of the Erie County Sheriff’s Department after 37 years of service in 2011. During his time with the Sheriff’s office, he was recognized as law enforcement officer of the year. He also worked for Wegmans for many years. Jim loved watching and talking sports with anyone who would listen, especially when it came to his Cleveland teams, the Browns, and the Indians. He also enjoyed his weekly trips to the Casino. More than these, he truly loved watching his grandchildren in all their sports and extracurricular activities.

Jim is preceded in death by his parents, a daughter Julie, his brother Howard, and granddaughter, Madison Utegg, as well as nephews Douglas Dibble and Ryan Clark.

Jim is survived by his wife, Debbie, and his sisters Norma Dibble (Bill) of Louisville, KY, and Marilyn Benim (Ray) of Lawrence Park, PA.

He's further survived by daughters Lisa Utegg (Mark), and Sheri Voorhis (Tony), both of North East, PA, and Meghan Snider (Michael) of Erie; sons Timothy Haskins (Hillori) of North East, PA, and James Haskins (Lori) of Ripley, NY, and grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

Friends may call at Luther Memorial Church (parlor), 225 West 10th Street on Friday, March 8, 2024 from 10:00am until the time of a Celebration of Life Service in the sanctuary at 11:00 am, presided by Pastor Jay Mitchell and preached by Jim’s son in law, Michael Snider.  Interment will be held privately at Whispering Pines Cremation Garden at a future date.

Arrangements have been entrusted to Burton Quinn Scott Wintergreen, 2532 Norcross rd., Erie, PA 16510.
