James Arthur Hayes, 80, of Kearney, Missouri, passed away on September 17, 2021. Details of funeral to be added by funeral home.

Jim Hayes was born April 1, 1941, in Wadestown, West Virginia. He played football for University of West Virginia for 1 year, then moved to the Kansas City area when he was 18 years old to join his mom, dad and brother.

In 1963 he married Valerie Vogl and had 4 children that they raised over the next 25 years. He built his home in Kearney that he lovingly maintained for the remainder of his life. He was a hard working man who took pride in building and fixing things with his own hands. He enjoyed the outdoors and shared that love with his children by exploring national parks with them via a pop up camper and a coleman stove. Hunting was another passion he enjoyed, yet he never hunted for the sport of it alone. The wildlife he hunted became food for his family, not to be wasted.

While raising his children, he chose to explore more about the Catholic faith and converted to Catholicism. He loved the church and took great comfort in receiving the body of Christ each week.

In 1998 he married Martha Wyse, the love of his life. They shared adventures together such as cruises to Alaska and trips to Hawaii, Ireland and many other exciting destinations. One of their favorite things to do was visiting Branson around Christmas, to experience the lights and holiday spirit. They also shared their love of Christ by participating in each other's churches and becoming part of two faith communities, Annunciation Catholic Church and Northern Hills Baptist Church.

He also became a beloved member of Martha's family, her children and their children.

This will be added and finalized by funeral home.
