James Helms Obituary
He was born June 5, 1936 in Monroe, a son of the late Horace Hoyle Helms and Nancy Faye Lemmonds-Helms Curtis. Mr. Helms was a member of High Point Free Will Baptist Church. He enjoyed gardening and baking.
A service to celebrate the life of Mr. Helms will be held Thursday, Jan. 22, 2026 at 2 p.m. from the graveside at Lancaster Memorial Park with the Rev. Roger Anders officiating.
Mr. Helms is survived by his wife, Tommie Ann Helms of Lancaster; a son, James Anthony Helms Sr. of Lancaster; a daughter, Donna Helms Taylor (Kim) of Fort Lawn; a stepson, Jeffrey Scott Sigmon (Dee) of Lancaster; three stepdaughters, Julia Suzanne Catoe (Tim), Dr. Melanie S. Vaughn (Robert) and Angela Garces (Juan) all of Lancaster; a sister, Marie C. Williams (Doug) of Matthews, N.C.; three grandchildren; nine step-grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and five step-great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Betty Rae Phillips Helms; two sisters, Joyce E. Todd and Barbara Parker; and a step-great-granddaughter, Ansley Rae Stroud.
The family will receive friends following the graveside at Lancaster Memorial Park.
Memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude’s Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
