James Hilliard Obituary
James attended Phillis Wheatley High School in Fifth Ward. Music was a significant part of his life from an early age, and he had the privilege of playing alongside the late Joe Sample. James was well-loved for his sharp sense of humor, easy-going nature, and zest for life.
A proud veteran, James served in the United States Army, where he performed in the military band. After his service, he worked as a laborer in Newport News, Virginia, before returning to Houston. There, he met the love of his life, Janell Juanita Hilliard, and they were married on September 1, 1962.
Together, they were blessed with a daughter, Jennifer Aitsebaomo. James had a deep love for people and service and his last career move included his work as a barber in Acres Homes, offering quality haircuts at an affordable price.
James leaves to cherish his memory his daughter, Jennifer (Phillip) Aitsebaomo; his sister, Margo (Marcus) Ann Hilliard; his nephews, Raphael (Pamela) Alford and Cory (Cherita) Alford; his grandchildren, Aki and Aloaye Aitsebaomo; his great-grandniece, Sophie Alford; his great-grandnephew, Bruno Alford; and a large circle of extended family and friends.
James will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by all who knew him.

My Sincere Condolences to Jennifer, Margo, Marcus, and the Family! I thought about my cousin just last week. I was informed that he was ill, never wanted to disturb him.
I pray that the God of all comfort, comforts you at this time. I saw James at Betty´s celebration of life, we talked on the phone as if we had known each other all our lives. Such a kind and loving spirit.
