James Robert Hinchey, 94 of Jefferson City passed away Thursday January 30 following a short illness. He was preceded in death by his parents Clifford and Juanita Hill Hinchey, brother Frank Hinchey and sister Barbara Hinchey. Surviving him are: Wife, Lura Burchfiel Hinchey, Son, James R. Hinchey, Jr of Florida, Daughter, Sharon Knechtel and son-in-law, Kent Knechtel, and grandsons, Colin (MikaVogt) Knechtel and Clifford Knechtel, of Washington State. Jim was born and raised in Jefferson City. After a brief time at Carson Newman College he enrolled in the US Air Force, where he spent 4 years in San Antonio. After his discharge he finished his degree and graduated from the University of Tennessee. He spent his working career employed by The Magnavox Company as Inventory Control Manager for 33 years in Greeneville, Jefferson City and Morristown plants. Jim married Lu in 1962 and together they raised James and Sharon and contributed their time generously to the community and to First Baptist Church. After retirement he helped Lu set up the Jefferson County Archives, where he continued to volunteer for 28 years cataloging and storing local historical documents. Jim enjoyed family research and all things Historical. He and Lu traveled often throughout the country to visit family, see the sights, and spend time with grandchildren. Funeral services will be Saturday, February 8, 2025 at Farrar Funeral Home in Jefferson City at 11:00 A. M. with visitation at 10:00 and interment at Westview Cemetery following the service.
