A Graveside Service for James Wilbern Hines, 83, of Nacogdoches will be held at 10:00am on Monday, August 11, 2025, at Wheeler Cemetery in Corrigan, Texas. Mr. Hines passed away surrounded by his loving family on August 8, 2025, in Nacogdoches. He was born on April 7, 1942, in Smith County to the late Leroy and Helen Hines.

James graduated from Redland High School. When he was younger, he worked in the log woods with some of his family. Later, he worked for Lufkin Industries as a pipe fitter and electrician, where he eventually retired.

James and Joy met in high school. They courted for a time but went their separate ways after graduation. They both married and raised their families separately. Then after both of their spouses had passed away, they reunited at a high school reunion. James and Joy were inseparable after that. The two were married in 2003 and have been blessed to spend the last 22 years together.

James was a true outdoorsman. He spent many hours hunting and fishing. When not doing that, he was either watching a good ole western or baseball. Later in life, James enjoyed feeding and taking care of the wild birds around their house. James and Joy built a cabin in Colorado and basked in every chance they got to go spend some time there in nature.

James was a member of the Wakefield Baptist Church where he served as deacon and was a Promise Keeper.

James is survived by his loving wife, Joy Hines; daughters, Leslie Darlene Pinkstaff, Tina K. Hines, Donna Matheny and husband, Kevin, and Sandra York and husband, Carl; sons, Royce Carrico and wife, Gerri Lee, David Carrico and wife, Honey; grandchildren, Josh Carrico, Bree Carrico, Bryan Carrico, Missy Murphy, Tammy Murphy, Jaci Windham and husband, Brent, Cody Matheny and wife, Jordan, Casey Still and wife, Emily, Ewing Greenhill and wife, Hanna, and Abigail York; great-grandchildren, Emeri Windham, Averi Windham, Barrett Windham, Elvira Still, and Amos Still; sister, Marie Hines Reeves; and numerous nieces, nephews and other family.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Leroy and Helen Hines; wife, Murl Hines; daughter, Theresa Murphy and husband Kevin; son, Mickey Carrico; and brother, Leroy Hines, Jr.

Serving as pallbearers will be Kevin Matheny, Carl York, Cody Matheny, Casey Still, Ewing Greenhill, and Josh Carrico.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to Hospice in the Pines, Lufkin, Texas.
