Published by Legacy Remembers on Aug. 29, 2025.
Beloved husband, father, friend and veteran, James Theodore Holcombe passed away peacefully in grace on August 5, 2025.

Ted was born in Oakland, California to Albert and Wilhelmina Holcombe on October 2, 1945. He grew up primarily in Piedmont, CA and Ojai, CA graduating from Piedmont in 1963. Ted attended UC Berkeley and ran cross-country while completing his B.S. in Civil Engineering before joining the US Army, Corp of Engineers during the Vietnam war. He returned to UC Berkeley to complete his M.S. in Civil Engineering and served in the Army Reserve until 1978. Ted worked as an engineer for Pacific Gas and Electric in San Francisco until 2002.

Ted married his wife Rosemarie in July, 1975 in San Jose, CA. They lived in Fremont, CA for 30 years and raised their two children, daughter Diana, and son Jason. In 2005 Ted and Rosemarie retired to Vancouver WA.

Ted enjoyed playing card, computer, and board games, and dancing with his wife for many years with the Keeway Swingers Square Dance group in Fremont. A loving father, he also became very active volunteering as a youth soccer referee, and supporting the Cub Scouts and Boy Scouts. Ted's generous spirit also led him to become a volunteer coordinator for St. Vincent de Paul at St. John the Evangelist Church in Vancouver, WA, where he worked actively with St. Vincent's food pantry services until 2023.

During the last 20 years of his life he travelled with his wife to many countries around the world and was happily able to visit every continent, including Antarctica.

He is survived by his wife Rosemarie, daughter Diana (Rob), son Jason (Annie) and 3 grandsons Henry, Elliot, and Levi, his brother David, sister Katy (Foulkes), and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, and siblings Richard, Eleanor, Margaret, and Michael.

The family is deeply appreciative of the care and attention he received in his final days from Flor Torres and the team of care givers at Care Services AFH.

Ted's funeral will be held Monday, September 15 at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church in Vancouver, WA. Rosary mass begins at 10:30 am and funeral mass at 11:00 am.
