WALNUT COVE - James Edward Holoman, 67, passed away Monday morning, March 9, 2026, at his home surrounded by loving family.
James was born on December 4, 1958, in Allegheny County, Pa., to Richard Steven Holoman and Patricia Ehnot Holoman. He retired from the airline industry after 35 years of dedicated service as a helicopter and aircraft mechanic. During his career he was employed by Boeing, Piedmont, US Air and American Airlines. In addition, he owned and operated his own business, Southern Mountain Home Inspection.
James was a 1978 graduate of Pittsburgh Institute of Aeronautics. He earned his black belt in Chinese Kung-Fu and later became a respected teacher and instructor at Heng Shen Do at the Summit School in Winston. A gifted artist and musician, James also enjoyed skydiving, scuba diving and was an avid NASCAR fan.
James stated his proudest accomplishments in life were his daughter and building his home with his own hands for his family. He resided in Walnut Cove, N.C. for the past 40 years.
James was also an organ donor recipient, having received both a kidney and a liver from two generous donor families. Above all, he was a devoted son, husband, father, grandfather, and a loyal friend to many. His kindness, generosity, and friendship touched countless lives, and his memory will be cherished by all who knew and loved him.
He was preceded in death by his father, Richard Steven Holoman; his brother, Timothy Richard Holoman; his mother-in-law, Harriet Burkett; and his brother-in-law, John Lewis Ross.
James is survived by his loving wife, Jennifer Ross Holoman; his daughter, Heather Jade Holoman-Smith (Dr. Brandon Smith); his grandson, Sutton Palmer Smith; his mother, Patricia Holoman; his sister, Tricia Derry (David); three sisters-in-law, Kathryne Ringeisen (Joe), Dianna Burkett and Leslie Holoman; several special aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews; and beloved dog, Bentley.
A memorial service will be held at 3 p.m. on Thursday, March 12, 2026, at Burroughs Chapel with Pastor Wesley Bullins officiating.
The family will receive friends from 1 to 3 p.m., prior to the service, on Thursday, March 12, 2026, at Burroughs Funeral Home.
