James Edward Hoops Sr., 86, of Pleasant City, passed away Wednesday (March 27, 2024) at Southeastern Med, Cambridge.
He was born October 6, 1937 in Barnesville, son of the late Ernest Webster Hoops and Letha Jane (Milhon) Hoops.
James was a courier at the Guernsey Bank for many years.
He was a member of the Pleasant City United Methodist Church, where he had been a trustee.
He, and his wife Ruth, were members of the Historical Society of Guernsey County. He enjoyed collecting coins, hot wheels, and marbles. He loved going to yard sales and flea markets whenever he was able to.
James was a veteran of the US Air Force.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by an infant son; and two sisters and brothers-in-law, Mae Louise & Jim Stephens and Judith Kay & Larry Nicholson.
James is survived by his wife, Ruth Ann (Watson) Hoops, whom he married June 7, 1962; his children, Christine Marie Hoops (& Rod) Blazvick, Cheryl Ann Hoops (& Mike) Edwards, and James Edward Hoops Jr.; two sisters, Ann Marie Hoops Fortier and Nancy Lee Hoops (& Tim) Robertson; several grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be held Saturday (March 30, 2024) from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Black-Epperson Funeral Home, Byesville, where funeral services will follow at 1 p.m. with Pastor Evan Greathouse and Pastor Roger Morrow officiating.
Burial will be at Friends Cemetery, Quaker City.
